Chardi Kala Jatha
The Chardi Kala Jatha is a group of young American Sikhs who have been training in traditional Gurbani Kirtan in Amritsar, Punjab under their ‘Ustaad ji’, Narinder Singh Sandhu. The Jatha has had the privilege of singing Gurbani Kirtan in the Siri Harimandir Sahib ( the Golden Temple ) in Amritsar. The members of the jatha are: Sada Sat Simran Singh Khalsa, Jagat Guru Singh Khalsa and Harimandir Jot Singh Khalsa. They have recorded two Gurbani Kirtan CDs with T-series recording studio, in New Delhi and two meditation CDs with Supertrack Studio in Ludhiana.
Each member of the Chardi Kala Jatha had the honor of serving their spiritual teacher, the late Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogi Ji. The Siri Singh Sahib personally directed all three members of the Chardi Kala Jatha to study Gurmat and Gurbani in India. During their summer breaks, the Jatha would visit him in New Mexico and would sit at his feet and learn. In addition to Gurbani, Yogi Ji helped to mold their character and he taught them that their role as Gursikhs would go beyond their identity as ‘Raagis’ and would involve other aspects of Sikhism in addition to Gurbani Kirtan. On many of the Siri Singh Sahib’s visits to India, the Jatha had the honor of serving as his security and hospitality detail as he traveled throughout India. It was through the grace of God and Guru that they were able to learn from him and be in his presence. They now travel throughout India and the world spreading the Guru’s teachings through playing Gurbani Kirtan and embodying the spirit and mission of the Gurus.
